VDI is a mold texture standard set by the Society of German Engineers. It is also known as VDI 3400 Surface Finish.When making molds, the VDI 3400 surface finish is primarily treated by Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM).

The roughness of the EDM process was determined by refining the adjusting of electricity. In this case,

the texture surface finish may not be rough enough or uniform as expected considering the size of the texturing areas.

In recent years, mold makers have achieved VDI 3400 textures by chemical etching after mold polishing.

It could get a uniform texture surface as the VDI 3400 standard.
